Equine Shiatsu: Treatment
During a treatment I use certain meridians and acupressure points to move stagnant Chi around the body. The treatment is a very gentle process and the horse's reactions and needs are always taken into consideration.
The time of the treatment is very dependent on the horse and the mood they are in on the day. A normal treatment will last around 45 minutes to an hour, although sometimes 10 minutes is enough in acute conditions. The frequency of treatment will depend on the horse and the condition being treated, as each one is very different.
If possible it is best to treat the horse in the stable when the yard is quiet and they are not expecting anything such as food or field time. I normally suggest that the horse is not ridden on the day of the Shiatsu - because horses, like humans, prefer to relax after a treatment.
Shiatsu is a complementary therapy that aims to work alongside vets and never to replace them. The permission of the horse's vet should be obtained before Shiatsu can be administered (this is a legal requirement of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966).
I cover Essex, West Sussex, Kent, Surrey and surrounding areas. The charge for a Shiatsu treatment is £35 including the initial consultation. Mileage is charged at 40p per mile after 10 miles. Gift vouchers available.
